Pascagoula MS – Onboard the LPD 22, 15 crew members from Deck and Engineering/Auxiliary Division (A Gang) recently completed a highly successful Deck Self Assessment and Groom Training (D-SAGT) event under the guidance of Cape Henry’s Mobile Training Team. The purpose of the LPD 17 class D-SAGT is to train shipboard leaders to assess operational capabilities and ensure systems are functioning correctly and provide tools for shipboard personnel to maintain system readiness. The D-SAGT event includes systems alignment, ensuring proper operating procedures are in place, and the operators and maintainers are capable of keeping the readiness of the deck systems operational. The D-SAGT provides structured “hands-on, and classroom” interim system level training, up to date technical
data, updated PMS, PQS, and system checklists. The D-SAGT events are provided by a four-member Subject Matter Expert (SME) Mobile Training Team (MTT) which consists of experienced retired Sailors with vast Deck, Mechanical and Electrical knowledge of the LPD 17 Class Deck Systems.
The entire D-SAGT approach was modeled after successful SAGTs developed by the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) and targets the 21 deck mission critical systems and associated training to support the LPD 17 Ship Class interim training in support of future life cycle training solutions. Current Ship personnel were hand selected by the chain of command to receive this valuable training as these Sailors will become the future LPD 17 Class deck system Subject Matter Experts, thus ensuring that these highly valuable knowledge and skills are preserved and passed on to future Sailors.
